Celebrations for Eden Boys’ School on GCSE results day

  • 74% of pupils were awarded grades 9-5 in English & Maths, up from 69% in 2019.
  • 88% of pupils were awarded grades 9-4 in English & Maths, up from 82% in 2019.

The whole school community at Eden Boys’ School, Preston is celebrating an exceptional set of GCSE results after pupils sat exams for the first time since 2019.

Pupils have valiantly overcome two years of disruption to their education, following periods of lockdowns, self-isolation and illness. Despite these unprecedented challenges, pupils excelled in this year’s exams with the school securing significant increases in the number of pupils achieving a ‘strong pass’ (grade 9 to 5) in English and Maths, which rose from 69% in 2019 to 74% this year.

Staff and parents have today been celebrating with pupils at the school as they progress onto the next stage of their education or training.

Amaan Irfan Kauji was one of the school’s star performers, achieving the top grade of 9 in all 10 GCSE subjects.

Not only has Amaan exceeded expectations in his studies to become one of the highest achievers in the country, he has juggled his school work with selfless community volunteering in Preston with his local mosque. Amaan has also supported his peers at school, even returning to school following his exams to help at booster sessions for younger pupils and has signed up as an Eden alumnus to guide others through their studies.

Amaan, who will fulfil his passion for sciences in his A levels at Cardinal Newman College, said:

“I’m overwhelmed at my results- I would like to thank all of my teachers for the great deal of patience they have shown teaching me for the past five years.”

Nafisa Patel, Principal at Eden Boys’ School, Preston, said:

“Studying for and completing their exams at the best of times is difficult in itself, but our young people have faced so much disruption to their education. They should therefore be very proud of their results, particularly Amaan who was one of a number of outstanding achievers in our school.

“All of our staff want to give our pupils the best possible chance to achieve their aims and I know how much the boys appreciate their teachers’ support.

“We wish our departing year 11s the best of luck in whatever their future holds.”
