Eden Boys’ School, Preston pupils celebrate GCSE efforts

Pupils at Eden Boys’ School, Preston are celebrating GCSE results day after facing more than a year of challenges to their education.

GCSE pupils at the school worked hard throughout the pandemic to overcome lockdowns, periods of self-isolation and illness. Exams were cancelled this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Exam boards issued qualifications based on grades determined by teachers following tests and assessments completed in school.

Today, pupils are celebrating the results of their efforts as they collect their GCSE results and progress onto the next stage of their education or training.

Amongst the pupils to secure a life-changing set of GCSE results was Year 11 pupil Abdur Rehman Bhula. Abdur, who is the current Head Boy of the school, was delighted to have achieved eight grade 9s and one grade 8. Alongside his dedication to his school work, Abdur worked tremendously hard throughout the pandemic to support the school in its charitable projects for those communities devastated by COVID-19.

Together with the rest of the school, the talented pupil helped raise over £10,000 for good causes in the UK and abroad.  Teachers say that Abdur’s achievements were made all the more remarkable as he successfully balanced his academic studies with his leadership responsibilities, which he undertook as part of the student leadership body.

Abdur said: “I am so thankful to the wonderful teachers at Eden Boys’ School who supported me through my five years at the school.  I am so proud of my grades and want to make my family proud by being successful at college and at university.”

Mrs Nafisa Patel, Principal at Eden Boys’ School, Preston, praised pupils at the school who she said had demonstrated ‘tremendous resilience’.

She said: “I am very proud of the tremendous resilience, passion and dedication that this year’s cohort of GCSE pupils have demonstrated in the most difficult of circumstances.

“Abdur and his classmates are living proof that hard work and true grit can take you to the highest achievements if you put your mind to it. I wish the class of 2021 the very best as they embark on the next stage of their education and lives.”
